Summer in southwest Missouri means longer days outside, and that usually translates to bodies doing a lot more than they’re used to. Yard work picks up, weekend projects take over the garage, the boat finally goes in the water, golf rounds run longer, and the kids and grandkids want to be hauled around to every park, pool, and weekend trip on the calendar. By the time July rolls around, most of us are dealing with tight hips, a stiff lower back, sore shoulders, or that nagging hamstring tension that just won’t release no matter how much we try to stretch on our own.
That’s where assisted stretching comes in, and it’s one of the most underused tools we offer at Executive Spa & Massage. Our Stretch Service is a one-on-one session with a stretch therapist who guides your body through targeted movements you can’t replicate on your own, and the difference between that and a quick stretch on the living room floor is significant.
Why Self-Stretching Isn’t Enough After 40
When you stretch yourself, your nervous system holds back. Your muscles tighten protectively to prevent you from pushing too far, which limits how much you actually open up. A trained stretch therapist works around that response by supporting your body, controlling the angle, and holding positions long enough for your tissues to genuinely release. The result is a deeper, more effective stretch than anything you can accomplish solo, and it’s especially valuable for areas that are hard to reach or hard to isolate on your own, like the hips, IT bands, deep chest muscles, and the rotator cuff.
For anyone in the Joplin and Neosho area who works at a desk during the week and then weekend-warriors their way through projects, this kind of structured stretching helps your body keep up with what you’re asking of it.
What a Stretch Session Looks Like at Our Spa
Sessions are 30 or 60 minutes and take place in a private room. You’ll wear comfortable clothes you can move freely in, fill out a quick form covering any injuries or conditions to be aware of, and talk with your therapist about which areas you want to focus on. A short warm-up gets your body ready, and then your therapist takes you through a focused or full-body sequence. Drink plenty of water before and after to help your muscles get the most out of the work.
It’s worth showing up about 15 minutes early so you can settle in and not feel rushed. The whole experience is quiet, intentional, and surprisingly relaxing.
Pair Stretching with Massage for the Real Payoff
Stretching opens the tissue. Massage releases the deeper tension that’s been building underneath. When you do them together, the effect lasts noticeably longer than either one alone. Our packages take advantage of this combination at a better rate than booking the services separately.
The Power Hour at $75 includes a 15-minute infrared sauna session, a 30-minute focused massage, and a 30-minute focused stretch, which is a great way to address one or two problem areas in a single visit. The Tune Up at $110 adds a full 60-minute deep tissue massage to a 30-minute stretch and sauna session, ideal if you’ve been pushing your body hard and need a real reset. The Rejuvenation package at $130 gives you a full 60 minutes of stretching paired with a full 60-minute massage and sauna time, which is the closest thing we offer to a full-body recovery day.
If you want to build stretching into your regular routine, we also offer four-session packages: $120 for four 30-minute sessions or $230 for four 60-minute sessions. That works out well for anyone training for a race, recovering from an old injury, or just trying to stay ahead of stiffness as the summer ramps up.
To book a stretch session or one of our recovery packages at our Joplin or Neosho location, give us a call at (417) 624-4492 or schedule online. Your body will thank you the next time you climb out of the boat, finish the lawn, or stand up from your desk on Monday morning.
