PREP YOUR SKIN
For best results, exfoliate before your session and focus on the driest areas — elbows, knees, hands, feet, and the backs of your ankles. PBT offers a wide array of exfoliating products like this pre-session exfoliant. Try to avoid waxing or other spa treatments the day of your spray tan.
On the day of your spray tan, don’t use moisturizers unless they are specifically formulated for a spray tan (i.e., oil‑free).
WHAT TO WEAR
Avoid wearing perfumes, deodorant, or makeup that can create a barrier to absorption. Avoid wearing tight clothing and shoes such as boots, socks, or tights, which may rub off some of the spray tans and cause uneven results.
Wear dark, loose-fitting clothes. If possible, wear nail polish. Even if your nail polish is a clear coat, it will help protect your nails from discoloration.
Once you’re set up in one of our private and secure tanning rooms, disrobe to your level of comfort. If you choose not to spray tan nude, wear a swimsuit or undergarment that you don’t mind possibly staining. Be sure to remove all jewelry and bring a protective hair cap if you wish.
PREP & PROTECT
Barrier cream is an important element for prepping your spray tan. Apply a light layer of the cream in areas where skin tends to be rougher — hands, fingers, feet, toes, and the sides of your feet. Don’t forget to apply to your cuticles, as well. These areas tend to soak up more spray solution.
WAIT FOR IT…
Avoid the following for the defined period:
Bathing or swimming: At least 4 hours.
Activities that make you sweat heavily: At least 4 hours.
Chlorine: Swimming in chlorinated pools will quickly break down your spray tan. We suggest avoiding entirely, if possible.
KEEP YOUR GLOW LONGER
Moisturize daily with a post-sunless product. Beware: Drugstore lotions may contain oils and other ingredients that can shorten the life of your spray tan.
Avoid body washes that contain harsh soaps, exfoliants, or oils. These ingredients can also shorten the life of your tan. We recommend using soaps that are specially formulated to extend the life of your tan.
Avoid using pore strips, bandages, and exfoliants (until you’re ready to spray again).
YOU’VE GOT QUESTIONS, WE’VE GOT ANSWERS!
“Will a spray tan makes me look orange? How can I avoid tanning streaks? How can I get rid of the spray tan smell?”
Here’s the truth about spray tans.
Out with the orange
These days spray tans are formulated to counter orange undertones. Just like makeup foundations, your spray tan is customizable to match your skin and meet your tan goals. If you’re new to spray tanning, consider starting with a lighter shade and building up with color-enhancing products.
All chic no streak
Self-tanners can leave their mark — namely unsightly streaks. When you spray tan at PBT, our perfectly calibrated system applies a flawless and even tan. Be sure to prep properly and take steps to maintain that glow. Exfoliate and shave before your spray tan, and make sure your moisturizer is designed for sunless tanning.
Let’s talk scents
Not all skin chemistry is the same. That’s why your favorite perfume smells different from you than your best friend. If you’re not into the smell of your spray tan, consider adding a fragrance. It’ll enhance the overall experience and you can be assured you’ll smell good, too.
